Australia held onto The Ashes in 2019 after a 2-2 series draw on English soil. It was the first drawn series for over 40 years with the last one occurring back in 1972. The rules state that if the series is a draw the holders retain The Ashes so the Aussies brought the old urn back down under. At the time of writing the Aussies were ranked as the 2nd best Test Team in the world behind India. England were ranked 5th so on paper at least the Aussies deserve to be favourites.
The 2021/22 Ashes will be played in Australia so it is no surprise to see that the hosts are a pretty skinny price. At the time of writing Australia were a best price of 4/7 with Betway, while the best odds about Australia were 3/1 with William Hill. However, given that there was so little between the sides in 2019, we think the draw could be the bet at 11/2. England have won only once on Aussie soil since 1986/87 and while a win might be beyond them, they could push the hosts all the way and come away with a creditable draw.
