Football Betting – Outright Markets
Before the season starts there are lots of outright betting markets available. You can bet on outright markets after the season/competition starts too, but if you want to get the best odds you usually have to get your bet on as early as possible. In the Premier League, for example, we looked at the outright markets available at Coral before the season started. Check out the wide variety of options in the list below…
- Outright Winner: Pick the Premier League winner. Each way available (1/4 odds, 1-2).
- Without the Big Six: Bet on who will finish highest, less the big six (Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea).
- Top Goalscorer: Bet on who will score the most goals. Each way available (1/4 odds 1-4).
- Relegation: Bet on who will finish in the bottom three.
- Top 4/Top 6 Finish: Bet on teams to finish in the Top 4 or Top 6 (win only).
- Top Half/Bottom Half Finish: Bet on whether teams will finish in the top or bottom half.
- Top/Bottom At Xmas: Bet on who will be top or bottom of the table on December 25th.

Football Betting – 1×2 Betting/Match Betting
In every football match, there are three possible outcomes. A home win (1), a draw (X) or an away win (2). In knockout competitions, extra time and penalties can be played to decide the winner. However, if you bet on the 1X2 market your bet is settled on the result after 90 minutes. You can bet on ‘Team to Go Through’ or ‘Team to Qualify’ if you want your bet to stand if it does go to extra time and penalties.
Betting on the 1X2 market is probably the most popular way to wager on football, and punters love combining match betting selections in accas too. We would advise caution with accas though. The more legs you have, mathematically the more likely is that one will lose. Therefore, we recommend sticking to singles if possible. If you do insist on placing 1X2 accas, make sure to avail of acca boost and acca insurance offers.
Football Betting – Both Teams To Score
Another very commonly placed wager on football matches is ‘Both Teams To Score’ or BTTS. In this market, the end result doesn’t matter. It is all about the goals. If you back both teams to score, you need both sides to find the back of the net. If they do, you will win your bet regardless of the final scoreline.
You can place match result / BTTS bets too. With these wagers, you bet on both teams to score and the end result. You need to predict both correctly to win your bet and sometimes excellent value is available in the match result/BTTS markets.
If you fancy a side to win strongly, but they have a habit of conceding sloppy goals, betting on them to win and both teams to score makes perfect sense.
