In terms of odds, bonuses and welcome offers there are a number of standout Open Championship betting sites that can be used by UK punters. We like to see lots of promotions for the Open Championship, including enhanced odds, money back specials and another very important factor is the quality of odds. SportNation claimed top spot in our list of the best Open Championship betting sites. Paddy Power and Betfair weren’t far behind and you can check the final results for yourself in the table above.

Open Championship Betting Sites: SportNation Promotions

If you are looking for a fresh and exciting Open Championship betting site, SportNation could be just the ticket. SportNation’s popularity with punters is increasing all the time and they can normally be relied upon to come up with some very interesting golf betting promotions for all the biggest golf tournaments. They had a very nice offer for last season’s Open Championship, find out more about it below…

SportNation Open Championship Enhanced Odds Sign Up Offer

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy

SportNation primarily focuses on football promotions, but they do like do diversify into other sports occasionally. You will usually find some tasty offers for all four of the golf majors and last year’s Open Championship welcome offer was a very good one. Okay, Shane Lowry’s win meant that this promotion didn’t click, but who is to say that their future Open Championship sign up offers won’t be winners.

If you signed up using the Promo Code SNODDS, SportNation were offering 10/1 about any of Spieth, Woods, McIlroy or Fleetwood winning the Open Championship. This was enhanced from just 3/1 so it really was a very good offer. The maximum stake was £10, though certain wagering and turnover requirements had to be met before withdrawals could be made. Keep an eye out for similar SportNation promotions next year and make sure to closely read the T&Cs to find out the exact turnover/wagering requirements.

Open Championship Betting Sites: Promotions and Free Bets

Given that the Open Championship is by far the biggest and most important golf tournament held in the UK, it is no shock that the majority of our leading Open Championship betting sites have a variety of promotions available. Not only are new customer offers widespread for the British Open, existing customers benefit from bonus offers and specials too for The Open. Below we highlight the types of specials and promotions you need to keep your eyes peeled for when the next Open Championship wheels around…

  • Open Championship Free Bets: William Hill is one of the UK’s best known betting sites and they ran one of the best Open Championship free bet promotions for last year. If you backed a player to win outright (min £10 win or £5 e/w), you received a free £10 bet for every eagle they got during the tournament.
  • British Open Odds Boosts: Always look out for enhanced odds offers for the Open Championship, especially from SportNation and Betfair. They often boost British Open Odds for a selection of markets, so check those (and other) sites out to see if you can get a better price for your British Open wager.
  • Open Championship Early Payout Promotion: On occasion, certain bookies may offer an early payout if your player leads after the first, second or third round. Betway were one British Open Championship betting site that ran this special for last year’s event and hopefully they will be repeating the trick in 2019.
  • British Open Extra Place Offers: The Open Championship attracts a field of over 150 players so picking the winner is not an easy task. That is why you should always take full advantage of any bookies that offer enhanced each way terms. As we outlined earlier, many Open Championship betting sites offer extra places each way, including Paddy Power who paid out on 10 places last season.

British Open Odds And Betting Tip 2020

In 2020 it is the turn of Royal St George’s to host the Open Championship again. The last year they hosted in 2011 it was Darren Clarke who secured an emotional win. A links course, the weather can play havoc and if the winds get up anything can and does happen. It is not a particularly long course but accuracy is crucial and if weather is poor it becomes even more important.

Brooks Koepka is the 2nd favourite at odds of 11/1 with Paddy Power, who are already offering an extra place (6) for each way wagers. He does look a lot more solid than the top player in the betting, Rory McIlroy. His major record is woeful in recent seasons and after his poor Portrush display he looks way too short at 12/1. He just seems to struggle to handle the pressure on his home turf.

Tommy Fleetwood was knocking on the door in majors last season and he looks a decent price at 25/1 with Betfair. They too were paying out on 6 places each way at the time of writing. Fleetwood was runner up behind Shane Lowry in the 2019 Open and his turn cannot be far away. He looks well worth backing each way at 25/1 in his bid to go one better in 2020.

Open Championship Betting Advice

So, as you have probably learned from experience, landing a winner at the Open Championship is far from a straightforward task. Luckily for you, our golf betting experts are feeling generous and below we have listed some useful advice and hints that will hopefully help land you an elusive British Open winning bet!

Open Championship Betting Tips

  1. Open Championship Course Characteristics: Some players are suited by different types of courses. For example, power hitters from the tee prefer long, straight courses that allow them to maximise distance from the tee. More accurate players prosper when the wind is up on links courses, so study the form and back players who have the attributes to succeed on the chosen Open Championship course.
  2. Only Settle For The Best Odds: The most basic thing you can do to ensure maximum returns from Open Championship bets is to get the best odds. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that your returns will be better the bigger the price, so shop around and locate the best odds for all your Open Championship wagers.
  3. Weather Watch: In Britain the weather is extremely unpredictable, even when the Open Championship is held in July. Add this to the fact that many of the venues that host the Open are links courses and that adds to just how big an influence the weather can be. Keep an eye on local forecasts in the weeks before the Open Championship and back players proven in the prevailing conditions.

Open Championship Betting Sites: The Markets Explained

Picking your Open Championship betting site is just the start. Once you choose your bookie, next up you’ll have to find a British Open betting market that best suits your punting style. We hope to help you pick the correct market that maximises your prospects of turning an Open Championship profit. Keep on reading to find out more about the Open Championship markets that have the best potential for profit…

Open Championship Pre-Tournament Markets

The Outright Winner market is the one that most punters will be familiar with. With win and each way betting available, this market is where the majority of people get involved when betting on the British Open. However, you shouldn’t just limit yourself to straight win and each way betting, there are lots of other outright Open Championship markets that are worth a second look.

For example, you can bet on the Top Amateur (Silver Medal) as well as the nationality of the overall winner. Other interesting outright markets include betting on a Top 5 or 10 finish and if you are looking for selections at shorter odds to make up an Open Championship acca, the ‘Make The Cut’ market can often be a happy hunting ground.

Popular Open Championship Pre-Tournament Markets

  • To win outright (each way also available).
  • To achieve a finish in the top 5, 10 or 20.
  • The leading Amateur (Silver Medal).
  • Betting Without (similar to outright win/each way with a player or players excluded from the market).

Open Championship Group Betting

Another interesting option for Open Championship punters is the Group/Match Betting market. Bookies group players together in pairs or groups of three and whoever shoots the lowest score wins. You can place Group bets on individual rounds or across the whole tournament and while prices are not as generous as in some other markets, you can still occasionally find decent value bets.

Open Championship: Betting on the Winning Margin

This is a market where you will find decent odds but it is usually pretty hard to predict the winning margin. One piece of advice we would give is to bet on smaller winning margins when the weather is bad as this can often result in exciting close finishes. Alternatively, if conditions are favourable then a larger winning margin is a lot more likely.

Open Championship: Live Betting

Live betting on the Open Championship gives punters a second bite of the cherry if the player they back initially bombs out with a high score. All of our top Open Championship betting sites have in-play betting available and to be honest, most of the live betting suites we looked at stood up to scrutiny. One Open Championship betting site that surprised us with the quality of their live betting product was 10Bet.

On both mobile and desktop the 10Bet In Play betting suite is easy to use and it only takes a couple of clicks to place a bet. This is vital in our view, because the longer it takes to place a bet the more likely it is that the odds will change. Even in a relatively slow sport like golf, one poor shot can have a big impact on live betting odds. So, if you are looking for a reliable site to bet in play on the Open Championship, give 10Bet a try.

Open Championship Betting Sites Live Streaming

The Open Championship is one of the most watched sporting events on TV, especially on the final day. At the time of writing no Open Championship betting sites have secured the rights to stream the tournament live and we can’t see that changing in the near future at least. If the situation does change we will let you know.

Open Championship Mobile Betting

Betting on mobile is viewed as the future by many in the industry and that is why so many Open Championship betting sites focus on producing high quality mobile apps or web apps. For us, LeoVegas Sport’s iOS and Android apps are well worth checking out. The iOS LeoVegas Sport App is 23.5 MB and requires iOS 8.0 or later to operate. It works on iPhone, iPad and on iPod Touch and it can be downloaded from the App Store.

The Android App is available to download direct from LeoVegas or alternatively you can download via the Play Store. Another option is to just visit LeoVegas Sport on your mobile browser. All three mobile platforms work well and they have slick interfaces and smooth software. You will be able to bet on the move with ease on your mobile devices if you sign up with LeoVegas Sport.

Open Championship Betting Sites FAQs

It is really a toss-up as to which Open Championship betting site has the best promotions. For some punters extra places each way are very desirable and Paddy Power’s 10 Places is hard to beat. However, other bookies have Open Championship free bets (William Hill) and you should be able to find a promotion that suits you with one of our top British Open betting sites.

If you look at our British Open odds comparison table above you can see the big difference in prices there is between just two Open Championship betting sites. For example, big hitting American Jon Rahm is 16/1 with Unibet, while with Betfair he is just 12/1. That is a massive difference and it shows just how important it is to do your research and find the best odds for your Open bets.

We are sorry to report that at the time of writing none of our leading Open Championship betting sites had live streaming of the tournament available. You’ll be able to catch the action live on satellite and terrestrial TV but remember that there is a slight delay in transmissions from the course to your TV if you are considering having a bet in-play.
