When we are reviewing Olympics betting sites we take a few different aspects into consideration. We like to see competitive prices, innovative and regular promotions and a strong selection of markets. Other things that matter to us include customer service and quality mobile apps. For us, Unibet is tough to beat when it comes to betting on the Olympic Games. William Hill and bet365 fill the podium places, but Unibet deservedly take the gold medal!

William Hill Olympic Games: Get on Early for Tokyo 2020!

We are big fans of using William Hill for our Olympic Games betting activities. Long established as a leading online and offline bookie, William Hill form their Olympic Games markets before anyone else! At the time of writing, a good number of months in advance of the start of Tokyo 2020, William Hill had more markets formed than the majority of Olympic Games betting sites we looked at.

william hill olympics betting

They had betting available for the men’s and women’s 100m and 200m sprints. Team GB has realistic hopes of a Gold medal double in the women’s events with Dina Asher Smith. Another one of the UK’s main medal hopes is Katarina Johnson-Thompson in the Heptathlon and you can back her at 13/10 with William Hill. For punters looking to get their bets on early, William Hill is one of the best Olympics betting sites for UK customers.

Olympics Betting Sites Promotions And Offers

When we wrote this article none of our top bookies had any Olympics betting promotions available. That situation is sure to change as Tokyo 2020 draws closer and here you will find information on the type of Olympic Games betting promotions you can expect to encounter. You can be sure that loads of betting sites will be hoping to attract new customers (and impress existing members) with a range of exciting promotions and specials. Below we look at some of the promotions you might come across for Tokyo 2020…

Tokyo 2020 Betting Promotions

  • Olympic Games Sign Up Offers: Bookies know that punters can’t help being patriotic when punting on the Olympics. Watch out for enhanced odds welcome offers on some of Team GB’s biggest medal hopes for Tokyo 2020.
  • Olympic Games Odds Boosts: If you sign up with Betfair or William Hill you’ll be able to boost the odds on your Olympic Games bets. Make sure to choose wisely though and only boost the odds on the bets you believe have the best chance of winning.
  • Olympic Games Acca Insurance: There will be plenty of odds on favourites at Tokyo 2020 but some of them are guaranteed to go home disappointed. If you are placing an Acca on the Olympic Games make sure to avail of any Acca Insurance offers to soften the blow if one leg lets you down.

Olympics Betting Sites: The Top Sports To Focus On

When it comes to betting on the Olympic Games, punters have a ridiculous amount of sports to choose from. From basketball to football, gymnastics to weightlifting and from table tennis to athletics, there are literally hundreds of different events you can bet on. The most popular sports include the big sprint events, the 100m and 200m for both men and women. The sprint and middle distance hurdle races are good betting heats too.

If you have an in-depth knowledge of a niche sport, like sailing or judo, for example, you could make a killing. If you know a lot about a less mainstream sport like sailing or karate, you may well have an edge over the bookies’ traders who might not be as familiar with the less popular sports. It often pays to focus on sports you know most about, rather than betting on events just for the sake of it.

Olympic Games: A Brief History and Team GB Stars Of The Past

An idea that was inspired by the ancient games held in Olympia in Greece from around 800 BC, it was fitting that the first modern Olympic Games took place in Athens in 1896. Only 241 athletes competed in the inaugural event, but nowadays thousands take part. The games are held every four years with the host nations selected by the IOC (International Olympic Committee). London has hosted on three occasions, most recently in 2012.

Team GB (Great Britain) has a rich and illustrious history at the Olympic Games. In the next few sections, we will look back at some of the most famous (and infamous) British performances in Olympic Games history. From multiple medal winners to one hit wonders, once you read the next few paragraphs you’ll be counting down the days to the start of the next Olympic Games!

Team GB Olympic Heroes: Sir Steve Redgrave

Sir Steve Redgrave was a gold medal winning machine for Team GB. He incredibly won at a record five consecutive Olympic Games between 1984 and 2000. His first Olympic Gold for rowing came in Los Angeles in the Coxed Four, while his last came at Sydney 2000 in the Coxless Four. Redgrave had to overcome adversity in his life as he is a diabetic and also suffers from ulcerative colitis. In 2001 he was made a CBE and few athletes deserve that title more than Sir Steven Redgrave. He is a true British Olympic Legend.

Team GB Olympic Heroes: Linford Christie

A three-time Olympic medallist, Linford Christie remains the fastest man in British history. His record set in 1993 of 9.87 still stands and he won Olympic gold in the 100m in Barcelona in 1992. However, there have been suspicions about Christie for some time and he has failed more than one doping test over the years. His British record and Olympic Gold medal still stand though and for now, at least, Linford Christie remains one of Team GB’s true Olympic Games legends.

Team GB Olympic Heroes: Mo Farah

Who could forget the dramatic gold medal wins by Mo Farah at London 2012? The Somalia born Team GB long distance runner won Gold in both the 10,000m and 5,000m in 2012 and 2016 and he is one of only two men to achieve this incredible feat. Kids up and down the country were doing the Mo-Bot after his big wins but the star has also courted controversy.

His long time coach Alberto Salazar was recently banned for doping violations and this has cast a shadow over his achievements. However, he remains a clean athlete and he will be targeting gold again at Tokyo 2020 in the 10,000m. It would take a brave person to bet against him completing the hat trick and you can back him at around 7/2.

Olympics Betting: Team GB Top Medal Hopes For Tokyo 2020

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is just around the corner and a number of Team GB stars have high hopes of winning medals. On the track, the likes of Mo Farah and Dina Asher Smith will fancy their chances of taking gold, as will Katarina Johnson Thompson in the Heptathlon. Below we take a brief look at some of the biggest British stars that will be strutting their stuff in Tokyo.

Team GB Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Medal Hopes: Dina Asher-Smith

Dina Asher-Smith is the golden girl of British sprinting. The fastest British woman of all time will be going for gold in two individual events. She is the 4/1 third favourite to win the 100m, while she is just 2/1 with William Hill to triumph in her main event, the 200m. Asher-Smith is just 24 and the Londoner took gold in the 200m at the 2019 World Championships in Qatar. Plenty will fancy her to repeat the dose in Tokyo and plenty of punters will be backing her in a double. The 200m represents her best chance of glory though, as is reflected by her odds.

Team GB Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Medal Hopes: Katarina Johnson-Thompson

Likeable Scouser Katarina Johnson-Thompson is another with realistic hopes of gold in Tokyo. She has matured into a world class heptathlete and she announced her arrival on the biggest stage in Qatar at the Worlds in 2019. She took the gold with a record score, beating her big rival Nafissatou Thiam in the process. Those two will lock horns again in Tokyo and if you fancy Thomson to come out on top you can get on now at odds of 13/10 with William Hill.

Team GB Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Medal Hopes: Adam Peaty

Up until recently, Uttoxeter was most famous with punters thanks to its racecourse and betting on Horse Racing. Adam Peaty has put the town on the map for other reasons though. The 25 year old swimmer is a dominant force and holds the world records for both the 50m and 100m breaststroke. He is the reigning Olympic 100m Breaststroke champion and he will be a very short price with Unibet to retain his crown. Unfortunately, the 50m breaststroke is not an Olympic event so Peaty may have to make do with just one gold unless he can engineer a win in the relay event.

2020 Tokyo Olympic Games: International Stars To Watch

tokyo 2020 olympics logo

Most British fans will be watching out for Team GB competitors during the Olympic Games. Even with Usain Bolt now retired there are lots of stars from other nations that will be well worth keeping tabs on. Young Norwegian star Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a joy to watch in the 1500m and 5000m. He narrowly missed out on medals in both disciplines at the World Championships in 2019 and with that experience under his belt he could be one to watch in Tokyo (and worth a bet for a medal in the 1500m with SportNation!).

Another superstar who will be well worth catching is Qatari competitor Mutaz Barshim. The languid high jumper took gold at the World Championships in Qatar in thrilling fashion. He makes the high jump look easy and he will be eager to make up for missing out on gold in 2012 (bronze) and 2016 (silver). In terms of betting on basketball, some of the sport’s biggest stars will line up for the USA. The likes of Lebron James and Steph Curry are both possibilities for Tokyo 2020. Team USA will be hot favourites with Betfair as they bid for a third straight Olympic gold medal.

Olympics Betting Sites: The Best Markets To Bet On

Once you have decided which of our Olympics betting sites you are going to sign up with, it is then that the fun starts. Given the massive amount of events you can bet on, choosing the best market is tougher than you think. The key is to choose a market that gives you the best chance of profitability. Every punter is different, so we can’t tell you exactly what market to go for. However, in the next few sections we briefly look at some of the markets we think it is possible to profit from. Keep on reading to learn more about Olympics betting markets.

Olympics Betting Markets: Outright Winner

The outright winner markets are where most punters are likely to risk their money on. In this market, you are betting on an athlete or team to win gold. Most bookies offer 3 places for e/w bets before the Olympics start, but once the early stages are finished you will only get paid on 2 places in most sports. If you fancy someone (or a team) strongly in an Olympic Games event, backing them outright to win gold is the way to go.

Olympics Betting Markets: To Win A Medal

This is a more attractive market than betting e/w on the outright market, even if the odds are skinnier. If you back a team or athlete in this market you need them to win a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal to get a return. Surprise results, especially in finals, are not uncommon given the massive pressure at the Olympics. The ‘To Win A Medal’ market means you’ll still win if the athlete or team you back chokes in the final and only wins silver or bronze.

Olympic Games Live Betting – Betfair The Place To Be!

Another area with the potential to produce a profit is Olympic Games live betting. You can be pretty sure that the majority of our Olympics Betting sites will have in-play markets available for loads of events. Betting in play on team events and on long distance races can add a lot of excitement to the viewing experience.

If you are looking for an Olympic Games betting site with live streaming of the Olympic Games you’ll be disappointed. You’ll still be able to catch all the action live on terrestrial TV if you want to bet in-play on the biggest events at Tokyo 2020. If you are looking to stream other sports like horse racing, football, and greyhound racing, Betfair and William Hill have got you covered.
