Our shortlist above features the very best betting sites for the Australian Open. These sites are vetted by the team at My Betting Bonus for the following features:

What Are the Best Tennis Bonuses?

paddy power australian open betting promotion

It can be hard to distinguish which bookie bonuses are worth the time. Rest assured, all the ones on this page — and across our site — pass our seal of approval.

The welcome bonus, which is also known as the sign-up bonus, is the first port of call.

However, did you know that most offers tend to be grouped into the following:

We have further information on the different variations coming up.

Sign-Up Offers for the Aussie Open

As the start of the competition gets closer, you may see some online bookies start to tailor their sign-up offers towards the tournament. However, since tennis is such a popular sport, especially for bettors, there’s nothing stopping you from signing up now and establishing a profile before the tournament starts.

To claim an offer, follow these simple steps:

  1. Select one of our offers on this page by clicking “visit.”
  2. Enter your personal information.
  3. Keep an eye out for a promotional code box — this may feature on the registration page or the deposit page.
  4. Make a deposit according to the offer.
  5. Place your qualifying bets.
  6. Place your free bets.

There are a couple of factors in these sign-up offers that you need to look out for, which we take you through in turn:

Time Restrictions

Make sure you check the terms and conditions for each offer you take up to check the expiry date. Some bookies will give you seven days, whereas others might have a more lenient 30-day timeframe.

Additionally, there’ll be restrictions on free bets from the date they’re granted. Again, check the small print for the exact terms.

Wagering Requirements

A wagering requirement is the value of bets you need to place to withdraw winnings from a bonus. These can apply to free bets as well as matched deposits and no deposit bonuses — more on these coming up.

For example, Unibet was known to have a 100% matched deposit up to £50 with a 3x wagering requirement in the past. Let’s assume you deposit £50 and receive the same amount in bonuses. With the wagering requirement, you need to place bets totalling £150 (3 x £50) to withdraw winnings from the bonus money.

Note that some bookies have a wagering multiplier that applies to both your deposit amount and the bonus. In our Unibet example, its terms only apply to the bonus.

As a rule of thumb, the lower the wagering, the easier it is to reach the requirements set. We also recommend that wagering is only done on the sportsbook.

Minimum Odds

We rarely see an offer that doesn’t require you to place your bets above minimum odds. Taking our Unibet example from above, the minimum odds to withdraw winnings is 2/5 (1.40).

Each bookie will vary, usually between 2/5 (1.40) and 3/4 (1.75); however, do check each offer separately and never assume.

Australian Open Free Bets

australian open logo

Free bets are when a bookie gives you a free bet to use after you’ve placed a bet of your own. These usually sit in your wallet separately to your own funds and are used in the bet slip — you should see either a drop-down or a little button to click to select it.

Note that, any winnings don’t include the original stake, and some carry a wagering requirement. They will certainly have minimum odds restrictions and need to be used within a certain time limit, so make sure you’re aware of this.

You might see other terminology for free bets, such as “Bet and Get.” William Hill’s a good example of this. It has a sign-up free bet offer labelled as “Bet £10 Get £30.” Follow this process to claim it:

  1. Click on the “visit” button next to the William Hill offer on this page.
  2. Click “get started” on the page that opens up on William Hill, and follow the registration instructions – you should see a message indicating that the promo code has been applied. At the time of writing, this is “C30.”
  3. Deposit a minimum of £10 into your account.
  4. Place a bet(s) of at least £10 on minimum odds of 1/2 (1.50).
  5. You should then see the free bets in your account as 3 x £10, once your qualifying bet has settled.
  6. You now have 30 days from the date of issue of the free bets.
  7. The wagering requirement for the free bets is x1. This means you only need to place your free bets once to withdraw any potential winnings from them.
  8. Good luck!

Insurance/Money-Back Free Bets

Insurance free bets and money-back free bets are similar to free bets in how you use them. However, these are contingent on your qualifying bet losing.

For example, you may back your favourite player to win their first round of the Australian Open. If they lose that match, the bookie will give you a free bet to the pre-agreed amount.

Insurance free bets tend to be linked more to accumulators. The most common form here is, if one of your legs loses, you’ll get your stake refunded up to a pre-agreed amount. You will need to pay attention to the minimum number of legs required and the reason for a leg losing. For instance, if a match is postponed due to weather, you’ll tend not to get a refund.

No Deposit Bonuses

No deposit bonuses offer value to bettors. This is purely down to the fact that none of your funds are at risk and the bookie will give you a bonus without the need for you to deposit. You’ll likely still need to place your bonus funds at minimum odds and may need to satisfy a wagering requirement to withdraw any potential winnings.

Matched Deposits

Matched deposits are as common as free bets, although they require more of your funds to be deposited.

The most common match is 100%, although sometimes we see higher and lower. Do keep an eye out for wagering requirements, since some bookies have a high multiplier for these, although low wagering is still possible. Minimum odds will still be a factor, too.

As an example, let’s say a bookie runs a 100% offer up to £100 as a sign-up bonus. The minimum odds here might be 1/1 (2.0), and wagering is x1. Your process here is:

  1. Register for a new account.
  2. Follow the sign-up instructions.
  3. Deposit an amount up to £100 — you can deposit more, but you’ll only receive a maximum of £100.
  4. Place bets totalling £100 across any sports event at minimum odds of 1/1 (2.0).
  5. Withdraw any potential winnings.

As of the 2019 tournament, Novak Djokovic leads the way for the most men’s titles at 7, with Roger Federer a close second with 6. You have to go back to the 1960’s for the closest competitor in Roy Emerson, who’s also won 6 titles.

For the women’s title, Margaret Court has won the Australian Open a massive 10 times in 14 years. This was during the 1960’s and 70’s. In the modern era, Serena Williams has added to her string of worldly tennis wins with 6 Australian Open victories.

When is the Australian Open?

The Australian Open runs for the last two weeks in January, slightly entering February. It’s the first Grand Slam of the year, before the French Open, Wimbledon, and then the US Open. Matches are played on three main courts, with peripheral matches played on the “outside courts.” The top-billed matches are played on the:

The Rod Laver Arena is the pinnacle, being the equivalent of Centre Court at Wimbledon, and is where the finals and semi-finals are played.

Australian Open Betting Odds — What Are the Best Markets?

Since there are so many markets to choose from in tennis betting, we’ll break down some of the main ones for you, namely:

Australian Open Odds — Outright Tournament Winner

Backing a player to win the tournament is probably the easiest bet to place in terms of understanding the bet. You simply back who you believe will the tournament; there’s nothing more technical than that.

Even if you know who you’ll back months in advance of the draw taking place, it might be best to wait closer to the tournament. You never know, you may come across an odds boost on that player.

Australian Open Match Betting

Match betting in the Aussie Open is when you back a player to win a certain match. You can either get on a player pre-match or wait until a game goes in-play here. The choice is yours. If you’re unsure of who’ll win a match, perhaps wait and see how they start the first set.

Don’t forget that you have time on your hands with match betting with the men — it’s the best of 5 sets here. With the women’s game, it’s the best of 3.

Australian Open Set Betting

Set betting in tennis means you bet on the finer details of the match. Primarily, this is who will win the next set. However, the bookies we feature on this site, especially Paddies, will allow you to back a certain set score. For example:

If you want until you bet in-play, the odds can move very fast.

Australian Open Game Betting

Game betting is definitely more of an in-play market since you can keep placing repetitive bets on who will win the next game.

This is ideally an area for experienced bettors. If you’re a novice or don’t feel confident, stick to the pre-match markets, and focus on the strategies that we mention coming up.

Australian Open Handicap Betting

Handicap markets in tennis are a way of getting on short-priced favourites at higher odds. The playing field is level when it comes to odds, but the favourite is required to win by a certain amount of games to win a handicap bet

Let’s take an example of if Djokovic ever has the chance to play Serena Williams, and Williams was the favourite. Without a handicap, you may see odds for each player to win:

For the handicap, let’s say -3.5 and +3.5 are used, so the odds could change to:

Can you see how backing Williams is now a much more tempting price? However, you will need Williams to win by at least 3.5 games for your bet to win. Even if she wins, unless it’s by more than this margin, your bet won’t win.

Conversely, if you back Djokovic and he wins, your bet wins. If he loses by less than 3.5 games, you still win the bet.

Australian Open Overs/Unders Betting

Betting on “overs” and “unders” means you can back the number of games and/or sets there’ll be in a game. So, rather than focusing on a player, you can enter a market for the number of games and/or sets rather than the player that wins or loses.

You can use this market in conjunction with the players, to back them winning over or under a certain amount of games. This could be a good option if you’ve done your research and a player tends to score well in terms of games won, no matter if they win or lose the match.

Australian Open Betting Tips

Instead of following your heart and backing your favourite player at the beginning and throughout the tournament, consider some of these options:

Australian Open Betting Sites – Current Form Analysis

Since the Australian Open is towards the early part of the ATP tour, it can be hard to gleam if a player is in form or not. There will be warm-up tournaments before the players head Down Under, so don’t forget to take these into account.

Australian Open Betting Sites – Head-to-Head Stats

Before every match, look out how the players perform against each other. Don’t go too far back on these stats, since their longer history doesn’t predict how they play against each other in more recent times.

If you spot something but still aren’t sure, you can always wait until the match starts to see if the stats match up against your analysis.

Australian Open Betting Sites – Surface Analysis

Always consider a player’s performance on the surface, as well as recent form and head-to-head stats. Even if one player dominates the matchup you’re looking at, what’s their performance like on the Aussie Open surface?

Due to the acrylic surface of the Australian Open, the game tends to be slower, so there’s less of an advantage to the server. This opens the game up, and more breaks are likely to be seen. Perhaps this might give you a different angle for the overs/unders markets in terms of the number of games played?

Australian Open Betting Sites – Find the Best Tennis Odds

Since your betting options are vast when it comes to the number of bookmakers, you should make sure you’re getting the best odds. A good way to do this is to use a comparison site and compare the odds to ensure you find the best value.

Australian Open Betting Sites – Doubles, Trebles, and Accumulators

Despite some matches being very much one-sided on paper, there’s still no guarantee that that player will win. This makes backing short-priced favourites below 1/1 (2.0) not so attractive. However, when you combine them with other bets, you’ll get better odds.

For example, let’s say you want to back Federer, Djokovic and Serena Williams in the first round, all to win. For argument’s sake, we’ll assume all their odds are 1/2 (1.5). If you placed £10 on them each to win individually, your profit would be £15 (3 x £5) and your risk £30 (3 x £10).

However, if you had them in a treble, the odds would be 119/50 (3.375). On this, your winnings would be £23.75.

With an accumulator, which would need at least four legs, some bookmakers may have a promotion running for your stake back if one of the legs loses.

Australian Open Betting Sites FAQs

What Surface is the Australian Open Played On?

The Australian Open is played on an acrylic surface and is known as a “hard” surface. This distinguishes between the other grass, clay and indoor (carpet) surfaces. Not all hard courts around the world have the same surface, and so their speeds differ depending on the tournament. Up until 1988, the Australian Open used to be played on grass, which now leaves Wimbledon as the only Grand Slam grass tournament on the circuit.

What’s the Best Bookmaker for the Australian Open?

Any of the bookies we’ve featured on this page are recommended for the Australian Open. They meet all our criteria. It’s hard to single out one bookmaker, although we know that many bettors like 888sport.

What’s the Best Bet for the Australian Open?

It depends on you and your personality. If you prefer the easy life of the tournament winner, then that’s a pretty easy market to understand. Although, you’re reliant on that player winning many games in a row, and so research is needed here. Why not focus on the match odds market instead? That way, you can single out individual players and matches as the tournament unfolds. If you’re feeling more adventurous, have a look at some of the in-play markets!
