Free bets can take any of these forms:

Bookies offering free bets may differ in their terminology, but you’ll see a commonality across the best betting sites. For example, free bets might be known as “free credits.”

How Free Bets Work

We’re going to pick on 888Sport for this example since it’s well-known for offering a £30 free bet that can be used on the US Open!

Follow these steps to claim the 888Sport £30 free bet:

  1. Click on the above “visit” button next to 888Sport
  2. Once there, click on the “register” button and fill in your details.
  3. Deposit and bet £10 using the specified promo code.
  4. Your free bets up to £30 will be credited to a “free bet balance” account.
  5. Use the £30 on a sports bet of your choice — your favourite US Open player, perhaps? Select the free bet in your bet slip rather than your own funds!
  6. Withdraw winnings once the bet(s) are settled.

Insurance/Money Back Free Bets

Insurance and money back free bets usually occur when your bet loses. These differ to welcome free bet offers, so be careful of the terminology. They still operate the same, by which you must place the free bet by selecting it in the bet slip.

The main difference here is that the free bet will only trigger if you lose. A regular free bet will be granted whether your original bet wins or loses. Thus, free bets are much better, in our opinion.

Sign-Up Offers

ladbrokes us open tennis welcome offerSign-up bonuses and promotions can either be tailored to a certain event or be generic across the book. Much like the example in the image above. For tennis, these usually revolve around Wimbledon if a betting site is pro-tennis. Most offers, however, if they are tailored, mainly focus on football.

That isn’t to say you can’t use the sign-up offers for betting on the US Open at one of the US Open betting sites above, of course. Most online bookies see the value in offering tennis markets to their members, and so don’t restrict their members from using the freebies there.

Time Restrictions

As a rule of thumb, make sure you claim the bonus as the first port of call. Some carry time restrictions that you need to adhere to in order to qualify for a bonus. This is especially the case for claiming the free bonuses. 7 days is a common time restriction from when you register your sportsbook account. Once this passes, wave goodbye to the free offer for eternity.

No Deposit Bonuses

In essence, no deposit bonuses are worthwhile. All you need to do to claim them is register with the betting site and opt-in if needed in order to receive the bonus amount.

Matched Deposits

Over time, you’ll likely see more bonuses labelled as “matched deposits” than any others. The most common offer in this category is a 100% matched deposit bonus. Some may be higher than 100%, and some may be lower.

When utilising the offers in the below list of matched deposit bonuses we’ve featured, remember to take deposit brackets into account. For example, let’s say that a bookmaker is running a 100% matched deposit bonus up to £50. The deposit brackets might look something like this:

Deposit Bracket (£) Matched Amount (£)
1-10 10
11-20 20
21-30 30
31-40 40
41-50 50

As you can see, it only makes sense to deposit the minimum for each bracket in order to receive the bonus amount. For example, if you deposit £11, you might get a £20 bonus. These vary between bookies, so be sure to check the terms and conditions for each offer below to confirm this.

Tips for US Open Bonuses and Promotions

There are a couple of things to look out for. These feature in the fine print of all bonuses if they’re applicable, yet vary in their detail:

Minimum Odds

It’s rare that you’ll see no odds restrictions for qualifying bets and free bets. Instead, a common minimum is 1/2 (1.5).

Taking the 888Sport free bet example above, that offer has a common minimum of 1/2. In this instance, your free bet needs to be placed on a bet that is, at a minimum, 1/2. Note that this is the price as confirmed in your bet slip, not when the tennis match (or any other sport you choose) starts.

Wagering Terms

Wagering is when there is a minimum restriction on the number of times you need to bet on a bonus. Free bets tend to not carry such a wagering requirement; however, we have seen them featured in some instances.

Just be very aware of these even if you’re sure you don’t need to wager. Matched deposits tend to have these as a standard. The lower the wagering requirement, the better the offer is in most cases.

Step-By-Step Guide to Getting a Bonus

Combining all our factors to look for together, using an example of a 100% matched deposit bonus up to £50 with a minimum wagering requirement of 3x, this is a usual process:

  1. Register with the bookie and quote the bonus code if needed.
  2. Don’t forget to check the time restriction for the bonus. For example, 7 days from registering your account.
  3. Deposit up to £50 into your account. PayPal is optimal here due to security and speed. However, many bookies prefer a debit card for your first deposit. Don’t forget to check the deposit brackets in the terms — you may be able to deposit £41 to get £50, as an example.
  4. Check your account to see that the free £50 has been granted.
  5. Check for another time restriction now on the free bets. This might be as short as 3 days or as much as 30. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
  6. Placed bets up to a total of 3 x £50 = £150 at a minimum of ½ (1.5). Don’t forget to confirm this minimum amount with the terms of the offer. You can always ask customer service if you’re unsure.
  7. Wait until your bets are settled and withdraw any winnings.

Note that the exact terms for the above may differ depending on the bet, but this is a good guide to follow. If you’re ever unsure, look for a live chat option to discuss any aspects with the customer service department.

US Open Enhanced Odds

Enhanced odds at US Open betting sites are a good opportunity to whet your appetite for tennis betting. A bookie will enhance or “boost” certain odds closer to the tournament starting. This can be a good way to back a player, double or a treble that you wouldn’t have at the usual market price.

The best way to keep an eye on these is to hover around the US Open betting sites page — use our list at the top of the page and/or the couple we mention in the next section. Also, keep an eye on the bookies’ Twitter feeds. This will allow you to get on them before the prices revert to their original level.

Using Paddy Power for the US Open

Paddy Power is well-renowned for its coverage of almost all sports. Tennis takes precedence on the home page, especially when the major tournaments are on. Sadly, due to licencing restrictions, it doesn’t tend to cover the big tournaments on its live streaming facility. However, the in-play data feed is excellent.

If you wanted to bet on tennis outside the big events, then as long as you have at least £1 in your account, you can watch some of the peripheral games live on their feed.

US Open Betting Sites – NetBet and the US Open

NetBet has a good tennis offering. Placing a bet is simple with this popular bookmaker. To boot, live streaming is available. But, just as with Paddy Power, this probably won’t be possible on any of the US Open betting sites. It makes up for this by having a large number of markets for both pre-match and in-play.

Which Players Have Won the US Open?

All the professional players dream of winning the infamous title of the US Open. However, that doesn’t mean these dreams become a reality. Since the surface is hard, this arguably requires less expertise than is needed on grass or clay, as with Wimbledon and the French Open respectively.

This means that you’ll see less dominance from a single player and more one-time winners popping up. Serena Williams and Roger Federer are the exceptions here, naturally, arguably being the two most dominant players of the modern game.

Year Men’s Winner Women’s Winner
1990 Pete Sampras Gabriela Sabatini
1991 Stefan Edberg Monica Seles

US Open Betting Odds — What Are the Best Markets?

When betting on the US Open, these are the main markets of choice at US Open betting sites:

US Open Outright Tournament Winner Betting

This is the simplest market and bet to place. All of the best betting sites will have an outright market to bet on. Here, you’re betting on who will win the tournament outright. This is a prime opportunity to back your favourite player or someone who’s hit a run of form recently, especially on hard surfaces.

Keep an eye out for boosted odds from major bookies in this market. Also, don’t narrow your focus on just the men’s and ladies’ winners. Since the US Open is a major ATP event, you’ll be able to get on doubles and mixed doubles winners too.

Going by recent winners, the tournament really is open, with no single player dominating since Federer’s string of victories from 2004 and Serena Williams’s trio from 2012. No US male has won the US Open since Andy Roddick in 2003.

US Open Betting Sites – US Open Men’s Odds 2020

As with most other tournaments, the same three lead the betting. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. The Serb probably has a slight advantage with his current form, but it won’t count for anything unless he’s playing well in the weeks and months before the event. Expect the odds to change, so if you fancy one of these three to go all the way, get your bet on now to enjoy a better price.

US Open Betting Sites – US Open 2020 Odds Women’s Draw

At the time of writing, there was no outright market available for the US Open. It will appear closer to the time, probably at the start of 2020. Serena Williams will no doubt lead the betting, but keep an eye out for the likes of Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu too. Keep an eye on form heading into the tournament.

US Open Tennis Betting Tip 2020: Daniil Medvedev @ 8/1 with 888Sport

US Open Match Betting

Match betting is when you back a player (or a couple for doubles) to win that particular match. This is the largest betting market in tennis, offering so many different betting opportunities throughout the tournament. Many punters will back a player throughout the tournament as it unfolds.

Before betting on a player, do some research into:

For example, you may be looking at backing the tournament favourite as they progress. What if they come up against a player whom they normally lose to? You might want to wait until the game has started to see if they’re doing well, or even after the first set to see if they take it.

US Open Set Betting

At US Open betting sites, entering the set betting markets can be a much tougher affair as you’re betting on what the score in sets will be at the end of the match. For first round men’s and women’s matches for heavy favourites, prices on 3-0 and 2-0 victories, respectively, will be really short. Doing a little research upfront will serve you in good stead.

You can even delve deeper into more detailed markets within the sets, such as:

US Open Game Betting

For those who are around to watch the matches and be at their betting app or computer, game betting can offer for a great experience.

Some good value can be had at times, especially when a heavy favourite loses the first set. In this instance, the favourite will step up their game to break back immediately to not let the match get away from them. This could be an opportunity to back the favourite to win the next game.

Other options here can include markets such as:

US Open Handicap Betting

Many bettors like the handicap markets since they take the confusion of the prices out of the way. Instead, the favourite is handicapped so that they need to win by a certain amount of games. Conversely, the underdog can lose by that amount of games, and you’d still win your bet if you backed the underdog and they lost.

We advise you to watch the market on these and see how they play out before getting involved. Even so, they prove to be very popular markets for beginners, especially for those who don’t want to back short-priced favourites, since the handicap raises the odds.

For example, in the WTA Hiroshima tournament, pre-match winner odds might be:

With the handicap:

As you can see, the odds for the players are closer together with the handicap. If you back Buzarnescu to win, she needs to win by at least 3.5 games (so, 4 games) for your bet to actually win. If she wins the match, but by less than 3.5, your bet loses. But if you back Nara to win and she wins, you win your bet. If she loses but by less than 3.5 games, you still win.

US Open Betting Sites – Overs/Unders

Much like in football with Over/Under markets, these tennis ones are on set and game totals. With set overs/unders, your options are limited since there are fewer sets in a match than games. For example, over or under 3.5 sets is the main focus since the minimum number of sets a player needs to win in the men’s game is 3 (best of 5). For women, over and under 2.5 is common since they play to the best of 4 — and 5 for major finals.

US Open Accumulators (Accas)

What many bettors do is to combine short-priced favourites together in order to get better odds. For example, combining the likes of Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova at their peak into a five-fold accumulator to win their US Open first round matches will provide better odds than if you backed them all individually.

Some new bookies and veterans in the game attach promotions to accas if one of your legs loses, which is known as “insurance.” These provide that extra layer of insurance and can be very worthwhile. Just make sure you check the minimum odds requirements and any other terms, so you don’t miss out. Don’t forget you might also be able to cash out an acca partway through.

US Open Betting Strategies

We’ve given you some insights throughout this page, but here’s a more concise list to help you on getting the best out of your US Open betting sites experience:

  1. Sign-up offers: Utilise US Open betting sites sign-up offers before you start to bet anywhere else on the site. Your first bet counts towards the terms of the offer.
  2. Compare odds: The bookies we’ve featured on this site will have better odds than most of the others. Even still, if you’re certain on backing a player for the outright tournament winner market, compare against the other bookmakers. Pre-tournament, the odds won’t move much, so you have plenty of time to make your comparison.
  3. Do your research: This is probably the most important thing to focus on when deciding on which player to back. Look at the player’s performance within the current season against that particular opposition, players with similar styles and the court surface. Looking at their performance in that tournament can give you an indicator, but historical performance doesn’t predict future results.
  4. Look for value: If in your research you find that two players have faced each other 4 times on the same surface and they’ve both won twice, their odds should be 1/1 (2.0) against each other. If you find odds higher than this at some US Open betting sites, then you arguably have value. It’s more complicated than this, but this gives you an idea of what to look for.

Can I Deposit with a Bookie Using PayPal?

Most of the top bookies will allow you to deposit via the likes of PayPal, Skrill and Neteller, but perhaps not in the first instance. There are exceptions, however, most prefer you to deposit using a debit card first. Once you’ve made your first deposit using your bank card, we recommend PayPal for deposits and withdrawals since it’s safer and quicker. Check the terms with each individual booking site to confirm this.
